Under Tanguy Turgis' helmet

19 yo Tanguy Turgis, neo professional and youngest of the Turgis brothers – both of his big brothers are pro riders – answered our « Under the helmet » interview’s questions a few days before his first Paris-Roubaix. Caution, contagious youth and insouciance!

Which race do you dream of winning?

Several races ! Paris-Roubaix, the Ronde van Vlaanderen, the ardennes’ classics… All of the great classics!

What is your favorite cobbled sector?

On Paris-Roubaix, I like the Carrefour de l’Arbre and Camphin-en-Pévèle, just before.

Would you rather become road cycling world champion or cyclo-cross world champion?

Road cycling world champion but cyclo-cross french champion because I love that discipline.

Which Strava KOM makes you proud?

Unfortunately, I do not own many of them! I have one near my hometown, I usually do it with my finally, I managed to be faster than my big brothers were.

What scares you the most during a race?

I hope it will never happen to me but I never broke anything in a race crash.

What was the most awkward moment in your career?

During a cyclo-cross recon in Besançon, I was in ahead of other competitors and I crashed while trying to jump boards. After that I could not jump boards for 2 years!

What do you do when you are not riding your bike?

Well, I play PlayStation with my friends: Fortnite! You have to write it in your interview, this is very important!

What do you do on the evenings during stage races?

I sleep. Usually, I am very exhausted so I just try to recover properly.

Do you have a superstitious ritual during your races?

I do not have any but I sometimes like to wear the same socks than the ones with which I won a race.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Saint Cyr sur Mer, la Cadiere d’Azur. My grandparents own a mobil-home there; we often go camping with my whole family. There is nothing more important in life than family.

Which meal do you miss the most in the middle of the season?

I do not deprive myself from many things but every time I stop racing for a while, I head to the fast food for my first meal. This is my ritual.

Is there a public figure that inspires you?

When I was younger, Philippe Gilbert and Thomas Voeckler did. However, now that I race against them, it changed! Now, I would say Martin Fourcade, he has a lot of style and elegance.

What would have been your favourite sport without cycling?

Biathlon. I live in paris so I unfortunately never practiced cross-country skiing but it looks great!

Apart from cycling, what is your dream in life?

I would like to make big trips in the world, visiting places such as the Grand Canyon for instance.

What would you like to do after your career?

I would like to become a riders’ agent.

Many thanks Tanguy, and we wish you a good race for Sunday !
